Sikalastic Moisture Seal – Moisture Barrier & Waterproofing Primer

Sikalastic Moisture Seal is a high-performance, two-component, water-based epoxy primer and waterproofing barrier membrane designed for use on damp and green concrete and cementitious substrates. It forms a waterproof vapour barrier with resistance to hydrostatic pressure and can help prevent rising damp.

Sikalastic Moisture Seal can be used as a moisture barrier and primer before compatible Sika waterproofing membranes. Its excellent adhesion to damp substrates, low VOC formulation, non-flammable properties and easy water clean-up make it suitable for a range of commercial, industrial and construction waterproofing applications.

Sydney Industrial Coatings is a Sika distributor supplying Sika waterproofing products across Sydney, NSW and Australia.

  • Damp or green concrete floors and slabs
  • Damp or green cement screeds
  • Concrete moisture vapour barrier applications
  • Moisture barrier for green concrete and screeds
  • Rendered brickwork
  • Rendered blockwork
  • Fibre cement sheeting

Sikalastic Moisture Seal as a Moisture Barrier

When used as a moisture barrier coating, Sikalastic® Moisture Seal forms a waterproof vapour barrier designed to resist hydrostatic pressure and help prevent rising damp.

Sika specifies a minimum of two coats at approximately 3m² per litre per coat, with a wet film thickness of approximately 250–300 microns per coat.

Sikalastic Moisture Seal as a Primer

Sikalastic Moisture Seal can be used as a primer over suitable damp concrete and damp screeds before applying compatible Sika waterproofing membranes.

  • Coats: 1 coat
  • Coverage: approximately 10m² per litre
  • Wet film thickness: approximately 100 microns

Always confirm membrane compatibility with Sika Technical Services before application.

Application & Mixing

Sikalastic Moisture Seal has a convenient 1:1 mixing ratio by volume. Thoroughly stir Part A and Part B separately before combining equal volumes in a clean container.

Use a mechanical mixer to thoroughly mix the components until a homogeneous liquid is achieved. Take care to avoid excessive air entrainment and only mix the amount of product that can be used within the applicable pot life.

Pot Life

  • 25°C: approximately 90 minutes
  • 35°C: approximately 45 minutes

Pot life is affected by temperature and site conditions. Do not use material that has exceeded its working time.

Overcoating & Curing

When used as a primer beneath compatible Sika® liquid-applied waterproofing membranes:

  • Minimum overcoating time: 6 hours
  • Maximum overcoating time: 48 hours

If the overcoating interval has exceeded 72 hours, Sika specifies applying another coat of Sikalastic® Moisture Seal to reactivate the surface and extend the overcoating interval.

Full cure is approximately 7 days. For full immersion or water testing, Sikalastic® Moisture Seal must cure for a minimum of 72 hours.

Actual curing and overcoating times depend on substrate temperature, ambient temperature and relative humidity.

Substrate Preparation

The substrate must be firm, clean, structurally sound and free from contaminants that could affect adhesion.

Remove dust, loose material, laitance, grease, oil, wax, curing compounds and other contaminants. Previous coatings, curing compounds or bonding agents must be mechanically prepared and washed to produce a clean, contaminant-free surface.

The surface should be smooth and continuous, with projections and rough areas removed or levelled as required.

Concrete must be cured for a minimum of 72 hours before application. Cement render and sand/cement screeds must be cured for a minimum of 24 hours.

Surface imperfections should be repaired using a suitable Sika® repair mortar.

  • What is Sikalastic Moisture Seal used for?
Sikalastic Moisture Seal is a two-component, water-based epoxy used as a moisture vapour barrier and primer on suitable damp or green concrete and cementitious substrates. It can also be used as a primer before compatible Sika® waterproofing membranes.
  • Can Sikalastic Moisture Seal be applied to damp concrete?
Yes. Sikalastic Moisture Seal is designed for use on suitable damp concrete and screeds and provides excellent adhesion to damp substrates. The substrate must still meet Sika’s preparation and curing requirements.
  • How much does Sikalastic Moisture Seal cover?
As a primer, the coverage is approximately 10m² per litre per coat. When used as a moisture barrier, a minimum of two coats is required at approximately 3m² per litre per coat. Actual coverage may vary depending on substrate porosity, surface profile and application conditions.
  • Can Sikalastic Moisture Seal help prevent rising damp?
Yes. Sikalastic Moisture Seal forms a waterproof vapour barrier that is resistant to hydrostatic pressure and can help prevent rising damp when correctly applied as part of a suitable system.
  • What is the mixing ratio and how many coats are required?
The mixing ratio is 1:1 by volume of Part A and Part B. One coat is required when used as a primer, while a minimum of two coats is required when used as a moisture barrier.
  • How long does Sikalastic Moisture Seal take to cure?
Full cure is approximately 7 days. When used beneath compatible Sika liquid-applied waterproofing membranes, allow a minimum of 6 hours and maximum of 48 hours before overcoating, subject to site conditions.
