Sika FerroGard 720 Reba- Zinc based discrete sacrificial anode
Sika FerroGard 720 Reba is a zinc based discrete sacrificial anode placed inside a concrete repaired area in reinforced concrete structures that are corroding due to chloride ingress. These anodes are positioned around the perimeter of the repair area and fixed to the reinforcement prior to the application of a concrete repair system. The reinforcement outside the repaired area is at greatest risk due to the passive condition of the reinforcement within the repaired area. These anodes corrode preferentially to the surrounding reinforcement, offering protection against incipient anode damage.
Sika FerroGard 720 Reba can also be used for corrosion prevention in new construction, especially in marine environments. The anodes are placed at specific positions on steel reinforcement stirrups, preventing corrosion and ensuring long-lasting protection for structures exposed to harsh conditions.
Usage
- Controlling the incipient anode effect by electrically balancing the anodic and cathodic areas of reinforcement.
- Targeted treatment applied to concrete repaired areas to prevent incipient corrosion damage.
- For reinforced concrete structures such as bridges, car parks, coastal structures, industrial structures, and residential high rises.
- Corrosion prevention for coastal reinforced concrete structures both in and above the tidal zones.
- Effective solution for corrosion prevention in new construction in marine environments.
Advantages
- Sika FerroGard 720 Reba anodes corrode preferentially to the surrounding reinforcement, providing protection from further corrosion damage.
- Prevents the incipient anode effect outside of repaired areas, ensuring long-term durability.
- No long-term maintenance costs.
- Strengthens the passive film on reinforcement, providing continuous protection.
- No rapid dissolution of activating components ensures sustained performance.
- Quick installation, with no additional concrete breakout required.
- Performance can be monitored through current outputs and reinforcement corrosion rate measurements.
- A cost-effective corrosion control solution for reinforced concrete structures.
Colour
Zinc anode core surrounded by an activating mortar casing with an integral titanium tie wire on one side.
Storage Conditions
Product must be stored in original, unopened, and undamaged sealed packaging in dry conditions at temperatures between +5°C and +30°C. Always refer to packaging. Do not allow contact with oxidizing materials. Pouches should only be opened when required, and any part-used pouches should be re-sealed.
Application
- Control of Incipient Anodes
Within the repair area where concrete has been removed, locate the Sika® FerroGard®-720 Reba anodes along the perimeter edges of the repair at spacings determined by the design engineer based on the steel density. After pre-soaking the individual Sika® FerroGard®-720 Reba anodes, attach them parallel or beneath the cleaned reinforcement using the conducting tie wires.
Confirm electrical continuity between the anode conductors and the reinforcement. Encapsulate the anodes in the relevant Sika® low resistivity bridging mortar to ensure complete coverage of the anode surface. Apply the appropriate Sika® concrete repair system once the bridging mortar has stiffened to prevent movement of the anodes. - Corrosion Prevention in New Construction
Sika® FerroGard®-720 Reba anodes are attached to the reinforcement by the integral tie wires at regular spacings. Ensure they are fixed to the bar with additional plastic tie wires to prevent displacement during concrete casting.
